I recommend reading this brand-spanking new blog by Torontonian freelance writer and photographer Laura Trethewey. It chronicles her VIA Rail pilgrimage across Canada, something which I find really interesting and inspiring. Train travel is indefinitely something of the past, something nostalgic and romantic. You never really even hear about young people traveling by train these days so I think that what Laura is doing with this blog is really exciting. Perhaps her blog will make Canadian travel more accessible and common for young people looking to explore their country.
