You Should Have Gone: Rifflandia 2009 in Victoria BC

A photo essay of Rifflandia 2009 by Michael Paget and Amy Darling, New Canadian Modern’s intrepid reporters du jour.

This is Lily Fawn’s kitchen.  Lily Fawn is in the great band, Hank & Lily.  They make beautiful music and clearly beautiful kitchens as well.  If you ever get the chance to see Hank & Lily, make it your priority because the music is that special.

Some interesting folk art found in Victoria, BC.

Victoria at night is a dreamy place to be.  Romance, lights, and historic magic.

The band Creature.

Transmission.

The epicness of the band Bucan Bucan.  Amazing musicians, costumes, and atmosphere.

Hipster favourites with haunting melodies and vocals, Beach House.

Amy’s French friends, DJ Champion play an arousing set.  Amazing lighting in the venue.  Amazing musicians.  Nothing better than watching a bunch of guys nerd out on guitars and computers.

Mother Mother at Rifflandia.

Another reason why Victoria is awesome.  Public urinals.

We end our magical weekend in Victoria with Lily Fawn’s magical living room.  Guns, taxidermy, Marilyn, organs, vintage furniture and hardwood floors.  A dream come true.
